HUMIKUN
Horse Cavalier
School character design assignment to design an anthropomorphic animal with a certain profession

Reference Sheet

-
Silhouette 11 was chosen for its more unique take on a centaur, mixing mount and its rider.
Initial Ideation

-
Design incorporates motifs taken from the garments that cavaliers and their horses wore throughout many eras in time ranging from roman to medieval and to the 1700s
-
The final design mixes and matches my favourite features of previous iterations to create a balance of strong armour and noble cloth garments
-
The weapon chosen was a simple jousting lance
Design Refinement

-
Colours chosen were largely inspired by the colourings of real horse breeds and the colours often found in historical garments/armour
- Garment colours were kept simple and vibrant as is often with war colours, often bearing the colours of the noble houses they represented
- In the end, a rather primary colour scheme of blue, gold/yellow with a fiery reddish orange was chosen for its vibrancy
- The muted and cool hues of the clothes allowed the fiery mane of the character to take centre stage
- The colours of the horse itself was refined with some gradients at the extremities to give some visual interest
